Linda: Hey, this is Linda and Charles with Fun Loving Couples. And today we are here with Akash Patel from Akash Winery in Temecula Valley, California. And we actually came about a month or so ago and visited with Travel Massive. We were at an event and had an amazing time. So we had to reach out to Akash and come back out and share this great winery with everyone. So Akash, tell us about your wonderful wines.
Akash Patel: Well, actually all of our wines here are grown on our estate, so everything’s estate grown. We have 20 acres total, 15 acres planted, two acres of Sauvignon Blanc, two acres of Petit Syrah, two acres of Cab Sav, six acres of Zinfandel, and we just planted three acres of Cabernet Franc.
Charles: Akash, when you say estate grown, what does that mean specifically? I don’t think a lot of people know.
Akash Patel: Yeah, well everything is grown here on our property within our vicinity of 20 acres. Not offsite, right here.
Charles: So in my opinion, that adds another unique flair and style because some of the wineries, again taking nothing away from them because everyone’s different, but some of them source their, they call juice, right. They source their juice or grapes from other places. Akash is doing it all on site. That’s amazing.
Akash Patel: And we manage our own vineyard, so I have control on what goes in and what our program’s looking like, and we make sure that our vineyards are the most important. That’s the first thing for us is the vineyard, and then it translates to what’s going on inside of our winery.
Charles: That’s important because obviously if the wine’s not good, my experience isn’t going to be good. But having had the wine already, I can tell you that it’s top quality. So tell us more about these individual bottles then.
Akash Patel: Well, the contents inside our wine is phenomenal. So the bottles, I want to give everyone a little bit more creative packaging and have something to take home and not just wine. Even though that’s always a good thing, but I think having a bottle you can drink, hold on to forever, and display it in your home, and why not? We have the ability to make some beautiful bottles, so might as well.
Charles: And I agree with you. The first time we walked in, before we even tasted the first thing that jumped out was the bottle design. It was just so different. It was magnetic in some sense. It drew you in to wanting to learn more, and then obviously getting a taste.
Akash Patel: Yeah, you gotta be fun, right? Every part of this industry’s fun and I want to carry throughout every portion, no matter what it is. The little small details. I don’t want anything to go unnoticed. I think we got to keep being creative and keep elevating everyone’s experience here.
Charles: Did you get that? It’s got to be fun. Fun loving couples, right?
Linda: Absolutely. So do you have a wine club currently?
Akash Patel: We do have a wine club. It is three bottles, and it’s every quarter. So basically turns out to be a case a year, so not too big of a commitment. And our wine club currently is customizable, so you pick and choose which bottles you want. We don’t hold you to anything.
Linda: Nice, very good. Well I can already tell which ones I want, so. And after tasting them before, they are very good. So if I may, this one is my favorite. I’m huge on Roses, and when I tried that, it was amazing.
Akash Patel: Thank you.
Linda: So I think we’ll be taking some home.
Akash Patel: Yeah.
Charles: I think, yeah, we’re going to probably taste more and really figure out what the good pairings are here, right? What’s a good steak? What’s one for a good Sunday afternoon?
Charles: We’re going to have to spend some time in research and due diligence on all of these.
Linda: Yes, we’ll be making an appointment soon.
Akash Patel: Yeah, sounds like some good homework to have. Absolutely.
Linda: Yes, some ammunition to share with our group.
Charles: We had our reservation, and we approached the property, and noticed there was just a little bit of construction going on. Nothing to worry about, but Akash, what’s going on? Then if you’ve got construction going on, what’s the plan here?
Akash Patel: Well, we have a tasting room right now, but that’s not where it stops. We’re actually going to be building a full bed and breakfast and resort here in the next three years. That’s going to consist of 40 rooms, restaurant, a lounge, a spa. We’re going to have a really cool pool with cabanas. So when you have that Rose, that Sav Blanc or some champagne, you’re going to want to be at our pool. So that’s also going to be reservations and only if you’re staying at the hotel. That’s a big thing to look forward to and weddings and events.
Charles: That sounds amazing.
Linda: Very cool.
Charles: I’m excited already.
Linda: I know. How do we get on the list for when you open? I want to be the first one.
Akash Patel: Well, join the club, and you’ll get the first email updates on that.
Charles: So again, by 2020?
Akash Patel: I’m going to hope. I don’t know. We’ll see when I start getting gray hairs.
Charles: So again, you’ve got the tasting room now. So the resort’s going to consist of a hotel, 40 rooms.
Akash Patel: 40 rooms. Yeah. Boutique style, upscale, two stories. We’re going to put you right in the vineyards. You’re going to have the beautiful views of the rolling hills on Calle Contento and see all the other wineries out here as well, and seclude you. Get you off that Rancho California traffic and you’re stuck in this beautiful street that just has so much to offer. We are by reservation only right now. So I would suggest call us and get an appointment. And we do table service here, so you get a world class experience. You don’t get up, and we do your tastings right at your table.
Charles: So you are singing to the choir right now because, taking nothing away from all the other wineries that are out there, but some of them you got to fight the crowds to get in. What I like is the experience where I can come and relax. I can enjoy. I can hang out with, make new friends. We can meet folks like Akash. But the fact that you get table service here. You don’t have to lift a finger, you’re speaking to me right off the top.
Akash Patel: Yeah.
Akash Patel: Yeah exactly. We want to create an experience here where people are enjoying themselves, not having to fight through lines to get wine. And they can just hang out, relax, and enjoy. Enjoy the beautiful vineyards and the environment we’re creating for them inside.
Linda: We really appreciate you opening up, number one, for the Valley and for everyone that’s coming to visit because it is a unique winery, unique bottles, unique blends. And it’s just a relaxing atmosphere, so it’s a really nice place.
Charles: Make sure you put Akash on your list. But don’t just drive up because you might not get the experience you want. Make sure to register or sign up or how do they get a hold of you?

Akash Patel: Right now we are 11 to 5 on the weekdays, and 11 to 6 on the weekends.
